this past weekend

first thing's first: no, genny, i didn't walk out of a meeting. being in the office was voluntary. i just chose not to work with the horrible woman so i left!

ok, we went back to long beach this past weekend to celebrate dan's birthday. had an awesome beach bonfire/bbq at bolsa chica. it was an adventure getting there. first, diane and i went to about 5 stores looking for sand pails. how can stores be out of sand toys already!!! it's still summer! after we finally found them (at good old target), jamie, diane, adam and i left for the beach to set up for the bonfire. we left in the early afternoon to get a pit. so as we approached bolsa chica on pch, traffic got heavier and heavier and soon, we were bumper to bumper trying to get to the parking lot entrance. we were in line for at 45 minutes. it was so strange because it's not like it was a holiday weekend. also, some stupid guy in a bmw or something kept on honking at us and tailing us. it was so ridiculous because WE WERE IN TRAFFIC. THERE WAS NO PLACE TO GO. then, trying to find a pit took a little while. they were already all taken. by some miracle, we got the last pit off of miles of beach. i couldnt believe it. the most interesting part was trying to set up the awning because we were faced with hurricane winds!!! ok, not that bad, but it was really really windy and it was a big awning. some kid even came to help us. we had to turn the beach chair bags into sand bags to hold the poles in the ground. so much fun! the water was great, too. sooo warm!!!!

so, in the early evening, dan and dorothy arrived and the birthday bbq began! we cooked foil dinners which were awesome (we had cut up and seasoned potatoes, onions, carrots and beef earlier and sealed them in foil). then we cooked hot dogs and smores. last we had birthday cheesecake for dan, but because it was so windy, we couldn't light the candle so we had him burn out a burning marshmallow. it was a great night spent with great friends.
